bus trip

Some of the best days of teaching and even more so the best days of learning, take place outside the walls of the classroom. Today, Ms. Youngman’s 3rd grade writing class took the new activity bus on its maiden voyage for an in town adventure! After completing a unit on correspondence writing, the students had been eagerly anticipating the mailing of the letters to their “future self.” Time and weather hadn’t permitted that to happen just yet, but today, these third graders got quite a surprise. The adventure began with a stop in the school office to put postage on the letters, and then they were off on the new activity bus! They stopped at the post office to mail the letters where they were unexpectedly greeted by the postmaster who gave them a behind the scenes tour! They learned that today alone 1,100 parcels would be passing through the local mail, that there are seven mail routes in Anna, and that there are 76,000 post offices in the United States. After the stop at the post office, Ms. Youngman surprised her accomplished writers with a stop at Davis Pastry for pink cookies. It may have only been an hour of their day, but it was sure to be an hour of adventure that they’ll remember for a very long time!
